Actors Joaquin Phoenix and Rooney Mara have welcomed their first child, a baby boy. The couple has named their son River, after Phoenix's late brother, River Phoenix, who died in 1993.
First Public Comments
In their first public comments about their son, Phoenix and Mara spoke about the meaning behind his name. "We felt that it was a beautiful way to honor our brother," said Phoenix. "He was a wonderful person and we wanted to keep his memory alive."
Mara added, "We also wanted to give our son a name that was meaningful to us and that we loved. River is a beautiful name and we hope that he grows up to be a wonderful person like his uncle."
